All Things Considered - Jul. 24 (News Report) - The man blamed for attacks on Norway's government headquarters and a youth retreat that left at least 93 dead said he was motivated by a desire to bring about a revolution in Norwegian society, his lawyer said Sunday. A manifesto he published online, which police are poring over and said was posted the day of the attack, ranted against Muslim immigration to Europe and vowed revenge on "indigenous Europeans," whom he accused of betraying their heritage. It added that they would be punished for their "treasonous acts." "The calculated cynicism in it is really staggering," Goran Skaalmo, an investigative reporter in Norway, told NPR's Linda Wertheimer. "He calls the operation in Oslo the 'ultimate love gift' at one time. He says in the foreword that to put this whole work together has cost him 370,000 euros. Also, he sees himself as a European hero."

The Guardian - By Mark Townsend - Oct. 10 (News Report) - As the far-right group marches in Leicester, details are emerging of growing contacts with extremist US groups in a 'war on Islamification" The English Defence League, a far-right grouping aimed at combating the "Islamification" of British cities, has developed strong links with the American Tea Party movement. An Observer investigation has established that the EDL has made contact with anti-jihad groups within the Tea Party organisation and has invited a senior US rabbi and Tea Party activist to London this month. Rabbi Nachum Shifren, a regular speaker at Tea Party conventions, will speak about Sharia law and also discuss funding issues. The league has also developed links with Pamela Geller, who was influential in the protests against plans to build an Islamic cultural centre near Ground Zero. Geller, darling of the Tea Party's growing anti-Islamic wing, is advocating an alliance with the EDL.

The Politico - By Josh Gerstein - Sep. 24 (News) - A Justice Department prosecutor defied his superiors by testifying at a U.S. Civil Rights Commission hearing Friday, where he leveled an explosive allegation: top officials in the department gutted a voter intimidation case against a fringe African American militant group because the suspects were black and their alleged victims were white. The prosecutor, Christopher Coates, also said the downgrading of the case against the New Black Panther Party was evidence of a Justice Department culture which discouraged “race neutral” enforcement of civil rights laws, frowned on prosecuting minority perpetrators and folded under pressure from black and Latino rights groups. After President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder took office, the culture intensified, Coates told the panel, ultimately leading to his departure as chief of the voting rights section early this year.

Palin wrote in a post on Twitter that Schlessinger's First Amendment rights "ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence" her. Such activism "isn't American, not fair," she added. Later she added, "Dr.Laura=even more powerful & effective w/out the shackles, so watch out Constitutional obstructionists." Schlessinger struck the same chord in an interview with Larry King in which she announced her decision. "The reason is, I want to regain my First Amendment rights. I want to be able to say what is on my mind," she said. After the N-word broadcast aired, Schlessinger apologized for using the racial epithet. "I articulated the N-word all the way out -- more than one time," she said. "And that was wrong. I'll say it again -- that was wrong." She said she "realized I had made a horrible mistake, and was so upset, I could not finish the show."

Three NJ Teens Fatally Beat Salvadoran Immigrant to Death, Show Off Video of Attack, Say Police

Not only that, but authorities say the teens also filmed the attack using a phone video-camera, and then circulated the video among teenagers in the town. To add still further insult to injury, as the father of four, Abelino Mazaniego, clung to life, a nurse in the emergency room allegedly helped himself to the $640.00 that was in the victim's wallet. Mazaniego had just finished his restaurant shift the evening of July 17 and was relaxing on a bench when three young men, ages 17, 18, 19, approached and decided to attack the man for no apparent reason.
