Obama Will Ride to the Rescue ... for Republicans

AlterNet - By Cenk Uygur - Dec. 22 (Opinion) - President Obama is dying to do the Grand Bargain. He will do it at any cost. In fact, he actively wants to cut Social Security and Medicare. He can't wait for that pat on the back from the establishment when they finally call him post-partisan, above party politics, and a statesman for screwing over his own voters. This is by far his greatest wish.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.5 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Anonymous claims to have blocked GOP election theft with Ohio firewall

Baltimore Examiner - By Michael Santo - Nov. 18 (News Report) - according to the report, Anonymous stopped any voter fraud from happening. The hacker group put up firewalls on election night to any data from flowing out of Ohio.

Anonymous, according to their "letter," could instead have tried to capture the data and then expose the criminals, but that would have been far too risky. Instead, they closed the hole that Rove was going to use and blocked the theft of the election.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.7 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

"Americans, you get the government you deserve," the talker told listeners yesterday, his words dripping with contempt.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.9 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Beyond the Dead End of American Electoral Politics: Rethinking the Crisis of Politics

truth-out.org - By Henry A. Giroux - Nov. 09 (Opinion) - The first assumption is that these elections actually provide a real set of choices for the American public. Nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, the choice is between Mitt Romney who is the titular head of a Republican party that is now largely controlled by a range of extremists. This cast of rouges includes ultra-conservative advocates of market fundamentalism and extreme religious zealots along with a mix of right-wing billionaires - all of whom are intent on destroying any vestige of the welfare state while quashing gay rights, attacking women’s rights, and suppressing voter registration turnout. On the other hand, Barack Obama is a conservative centrist who has repeatedly compromised his liberal policies on domestic issues while legitimating a range of foreign and domestic policies that have shredded civil liberties, expanded the permanent warfare state and increased the domestic reach of the punitive surveillance state.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.2 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Winning the Outside Chance

truth-out.org - By William Rivers Pitt - Nov. 09 (Opinion) - Mr. Obama gets four more years, which was the best possible outcome given the choice at hand. Mr. Romney gets shame and ignominy, likely in large doses after the simmering GOP civil war breaks wide open in the aftermath of all this. In the meantime, all the huge, bleeding problems we had on Monday remain with us. Afghanistan grinds on, the drones are still killing children, the dark-money barons still hold sway despite this setback, and while Mr. Obama got a nice cheer for mentioning "our warming planet" during his victory speech, the fact remains that a very large clock is ticking down to a very present deadline regarding our ability to survive the ravaged environment we have unleashed on ourselves.

Don't be smug. All we won on Tuesday night was the outside chance of not losing. What is made of that very slim margin is entirely up to you.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.4 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

While Democrats have retained control of the U.S. Senate, Republicans held on to the 435-member House in part thanks to redistricting. The Democrats increased their Senate lead with Elizabeth Warren's defeat of Sen. Scott Brown in Massachusetts. Warren, a champion of Wall Street reform, now joins the same Senate that refused to confirm her to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. [Transcript to come. And once again, Ohio is at the center of charges of systematic suppression of the African-American vote. We speak with Brentin Mock, the lead reporter for Voting Rights Watch 2012, a collaboration between The Nation magazine and Colorlines.com. On Election Day we can stop being so serious about fact-checking false or deceptive claims and have some fun handing out imaginary hardware ...
AlterNet - By Joshua Holland - Nov. 06 (News Analysis) - While the attacks were still underway, the Romney campaign released a statement claiming that the president of the United States, upon hearing that our embassies were being attacked, felt a rush of sympathy with the attackers, and immediately responded by “apologizing for our values.”

This is not the most important fight in the country. Getting money out of politics is far, far more important, so that next time we can actually have a decent choice when election time comes around.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.5 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
