The WIC program - which uses federal funds to provide food vouchers to low-income pregnant women, mothers, and young children - has been in partnership with three out of the four Tulsa-area Planned Parenthood clinics for the past 18 years, and the dissolution of the contract may force those clinics to close.The state's Department of Health did not give a reason for the contract's termination, saying only that it will not be renewed for "business reasons."

Instead of simply charting the amount of fish caught there, which creates the impression that the decline of fish populations has been moderate, it divides the fish caught by the amount of fishing power used to pursue them: the size and catching ability (larger engines, better nets, electronic fish finders) of the boats being launched.

Democracy Now - By Amy Goodman - Jun. 20 (News Report) - Leaders from more than 100 countries are meeting today in Brazil for the start of the Rio-plus-20 Earth Summit, the largest United Nations conference ever. The conference comes twenty years after the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro pledged to protect the planet by endorsing treaties on biodiversity and climate change. Little has been done in the intervening years to reach development goals in areas like food security, water, global warming and energy. Although negotiators have already agreed on a draft document to be approved by world leaders, many groups working on environmental and poverty issues have criticized the draft agreement, saying it is far too weak.
