After spending a day working on an upstate New York farm as part of the Take Our Jobs project, Colbert testified about his experiences before congress, sarcastically lamenting the backbreaking nature of the work due to most soil being at ground level.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.2 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

State of Texas - By Rick Perry - Sep. 28 (Statement) - Local and state reinforcement of federal forces has proven to be an extremely effective means of helping fill the capability shortfalls created by severe manpower shortages in key federal agencies like the U.S. Border Patrol. Since 2005, Texas has dedicated over $200 million in federal grants and state funding to help fill the critical gaps, and is committed to providing further support to ensure adequate forces are available to patrol and secure the Texas-Mexico border.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.3 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Department for Professional Employees - Feb. 24 (Advocacy) - The United States guest worker visa programs for specialty occupations are a flashpoint
in the immigration debate. Chief among the controversial visa programs are the H-1B and L-1
visas. Critics of the visas point out that the lack of worker protections, lower wages, body shops,
and absence of a labor market test result in foreign workers being used to replace qualified U.S.
workers. Despite these concerns, supporters of H-1B and L-1 visas seek to increase the number
of available visas.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.6 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Max Blumenthal - By Max Blumenthal - Jan. 08 (Opinion) - John Roll, the Chief Justice for the US District Court in Arizona, was among those killed this afternoon at a town hall with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. In February 2009, I testified as a prosecution witness in Roll’s courtroom in Tucson in a politically charged civil trial known as Vicente v. Barnett. I did not know at the time that Roll was living under a 24/7 protective detail because of hundreds of threats against him and his family as well as inflammatory rhetoric directed against him by right-wing elements.
NewsTrust Rating: Not rated yet - See Info » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Over the past two years, the Obama administration has deported a record number of undocumented immigrants but failed to gain support from Republicans on any immigration reform legislation. But the Somalis who settled in Minneapolis and other selected corners of the U.S. were war refugees, with little money and not many job skills. A recent U.S. census study said Somali immigrants, statistically, were among the “youngest and poorest” newcomers to the U.S., with 82 percent of the community in Minneapolis living below the poverty line.
NewsTrust Rating: Not rated yet - See Info » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

He later became involved with a gang and spent 17 years in prison. He turned his life around and is now pursuing a masters degree in urban policy and administration at Brooklyn College and is working at the Fortune Society, a nonprofit organization that helps ex-convicts re-enter society. But Tam Phan has been given a final deportation order and his only recourse is a pardon from New York Gov. David Paterson.
NewsTrust Rating: Not rated yet - See Info » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Raul Grijalva's office after a letter containing a toxic substance was mailed to them, we called up Adam Saravana, Grijalva's communications director, and got the inside story. Here's what Adam told us: At about 12:30, as they do every day, the staff checked the mail for the congressional district office. Among the letters was this envelope with -- it just had a mailing label, with a name and address on it, and I can't confirm if it's real or not. Inside the envelope, there were two pieces of paper with swastikas drawn on them. And there was a little plastic baggie with this powder in there. And so they called the police. The police showed up, and then the fire department arrived. And the fire department did a test, and said, 'OK, this is actually toxic. This is for real.' So the congressional office was on lockdown for more than an hour.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.4 average (not enough reviews) - See Review » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
