Nick Lemann makes a reasonable point that citizen journalism has not yet fulfilled its true potential. But he gives an unnecessarily harsh treatment to this promising trend. Instead of this "old-school" rant, readers would have benefitted from a more pro-active investigation of how we might solve some of the early pitfalls of citizen journalism.

One of the leading members of the MSM attacks citizen journalism -- "even at its best and most ambitious" as something best left to professionals, since, among other complaints, it only "reaches very small and specialized audiences and is proudly minor in its concerns."
