Bush Counters G.O.P. Dissent on Iraq Policy

Fearful of a Republican rebellion over Iraq that his own aides believe could force him to change course, President Bush said Tuesday that the United States would be able to pull back troops "in a while," but asked Congress to wait until September to pass judgment on a future military presence there. Fairly complete story. I think this slightly under-represents Democrats. Mostly well sourced, but some claims are simply without sources or evidence. For example: "his own aides believe could force him to change course". There is one anonymous source that might be related, but the connection would be vague.

The headline is misleading, as you would expect from this propaganda source. Bush is only stumping to argue that his judgment should be trusted, and that people should ignore what's happening in Iraq until September. He's not "countering" the GOP dissent, he's just begging for more opportunity for his surge policy to work. If any of his previous policies had worked, we wouldn't even be discussing this. Since he's been so dishonest about the war so far, it doesn't seem he's "countering" any dissent at all. That dissent is, in fact, increasing enough that he feels threatened.
