The NYT calls for stopping growth of the illegal settlements but urges compensation for Israel in exchange for ceasing to enlarge its own illegal activities.

Obama needs to tell Israel it must get out of the West Bank and the Golan Heights, entirely, and accept the Arab peace plan with some changes. If 500,000 Jews want to stay in the independent Palestine under Palestinian sovereignty, let them. Palestine must be the entire West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Israel should not be offered anything in exchange for stopping the growth of the illegal settlements.
