Smelly Journalism Dept: Fred Thompson's Wife

To those of you who roll your eyes and groan when you hear people go on and on about the biased news media that injects its personal opinions into news stories and peppers them with assumptions that the writer more than "critics say" seems to hold, roll your eyes no longer.

There are worse things in Thompson's closet that good journalism could turn up. This is probably as bad as the hack jobs on Hillory and Edwards haircut; all things to object to. But blood, bombs, and boobs will sell tabloids, eh?

Gandelman calls to account the NYT for biased reporting and manufacturing a story about Fred Thompson. Connects it to the campaign season. As the NYT belittles Republican challengers and performs its usual service on behalf of whoever the self-anointed decide ought to be our next president, it will be interesting to see how impactful will be the blogosphere's attempts to counter this advocacy with sunshine and its own advocacy.

Leaving aside the fact that I know and worked with the author, he makes an excellent point. The piece he talks about is not journalism -- it is a hit piece. Joe called it right. Good on you, Joe.

To read this critique of the New York Times, one would think it had appeared in the Politics section. In his drive to question the Times's editorial policy, the writer left out the context of the story and also failed to point out the Times's criticism of Joe Scarborough's tasteless comments, that the article did in fact define the term "trophy wife" and ...
