It's Time for a Declaration of Independence From Israel

Israel, without the United States, would probably not exist. The country came perilously close to extinction during the October 1973 war when Egypt, trained and backed by the Soviet Union, crossed the Suez and the Syrians poured in over the Golan Heights. Huge American military transport planes came to the rescue. They began landing every half-hour to refit the battered Israeli army, which had lost most of its heavy armor. By the time the war was over, ... Full Story »

Partisan anti Israel pro Arab opinion piece. Describes the natural and legitimate sympathy of Americans for Israel as an evil and manipulative Washington lobby. Condemns the Israeli security fence. Blames Iraqi war upon Arab-Israeli conflict. It is a good old fashioned political speech that would go over well at a Hamas rally, but it is not impartial journalism.

This piece offers a particular perspective on the US Israel alliance along with a historical information. The relationship of two countries over many decades is a complicated, nuance, and changing thing- points this piece does not bring across. Overall, I feel the piece fails to navigate this highly politicized issue very successfully, and certainly doesn't bring anything new to the table in terms of analysis.

Going back to the origins of the State of Israel, when its founders made extremely biased statements against the Palestinians, whose land they claimed as their own, would make the pretty-big picture shown here even bigger, as would mentioning that Israel is not only taking Palestinian land on the West Bank, but also the vast majority of the scarce water resources, and are making access to Palestinian land in the West Bank difficult for its Palestinian owners. Very good story, but it could have been more emphatic. It's too bad that the US essentially only heard the Israeli viewpoint until fairly recently, and the recent change is good.

This is exceptional journalism because it takes a view that people are aftraid to say out loud. Why is that? Could it be because anyone who dares to question Israli policy is automatically labled a holocaust denier. No reasonable person would deny the holocaust, but I often think of the known assumption in dealing with people who have been abused, that it is not unusual for the abused to become the perpetrator. This conversation needs to be brought out in the open, so Isreal and the US can take a look at what its protectionism has created.

This excellent, wide ranging and informative story takes on an American taboo -- the power of the Jewish Lobby -- and explains the consequences of this country's unwillingness to confront a formidable power block that puts the best interests of a foreign state ahead of the U.S.

This report attempts to show the Arab view that Israel has benefited from its friendship with the US, just as the US has benefited. Somehow, it sees this as a problem, compared to the hostility and harm inflicted by Arab/Muslim oil embargos and terrorism. When Jordan and Egypt occupied sections of Palestine, and used that occupation to launch terrorist attacks, the author has no problem, but when Israel uses its occupation to prevent terrorism, the author is offended ............................................................................................................................ Perhaps someday the Arab/Muslims will focus their efforts on developing products and services that better mankind. When that happens, they ... More »

Why has it taken so long for anyone to speak the TRUTH. Israel was the cause of 9/11 and the US stupid involvement in the middle east quagmire. We deserve what we get re terrorism for supporting the continued occupation of Palestine by Israel and the displacement to UN refugee camps for 4 million people for these last 40 years.
