Blue Dogs say they've reached a compromise on health care

A group of fiscally conservative House Democrats announced Wednesday they reached a deal with the chamber's Democratic leaders on a health care reform bill.

Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas, speaking for the Blue Dog Democrats, said the agreement calls for the House Energy and Commerce Committee to begin debating the bill later Wednesday, but for no vote by the full House until after the upcoming August recess. Full Story »

To begin with the article is boring. A fifth grader with a pencil and notepad could have most likely gotten not only better quotes, but provided more in-depth coverage in the process. This whole piece could have been, and probably was, compiled by using nothing but press releases, barring the one Grassley quote: "Most of our caucus feels that just simmering for people's reflections would be a good thing to do," which makes no sense at all. The only other highlight was the quote by Enzi about feeling his reputation endangered at rumors that he might possibly have been actually doing something bipartisan with real living Democrats. The rest of the article is typical blah, blah and blah. Times must be tough when investigative journalism is relegated to finding someone's printed statements to copy with, Lordy, attribution added, he said.

Health care in America is a mess and getting worse by the minute, deliberations included. Americans don't want to face the fact that we can't afford to take care of all our citizens at the level of care currently in place. Something has to give and if Americans are good at anything, it is NOT giving up stuff. But if we are going to insure everybody we can't all get MRIs everytime we get a headache, or get all our ugly warts and moles removed by having our Doctor pretend they're pre-cancerous and on and on. We are not a rational nation so we probably won't do anything rational about healthcare either.
