Blue Dogs say they've reached a compromise on health care

A group of fiscally conservative House Democrats announced Wednesday they reached a deal with the chamber's Democratic leaders on a health care reform bill.

Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas, speaking for the Blue Dog Democrats, said the agreement calls for the House Energy and Commerce Committee to begin debating the bill later Wednesday, but for no vote by the full House until after the upcoming August recess. Full Story »

The big unanswered question is what are the 10 items they demanded be included.

Now we just have to get the Senate in gear, who are still in a deadlock, according to a top aide.

To begin with the article is boring. A fifth grader with a pencil and notepad could have most likely gotten not only better quotes, but provided more in-depth coverage in the process. This whole piece could have been, and probably was, compiled by using nothing but press releases, barring the one Grassley quote: "Most of our caucus feels that just simmering for people's reflections would be a good thing to do," which makes no sense at all. The only other highlight was the quote by Enzi about feeling his reputation endangered at rumors that he might possibly have been actually doing something bipartisan with real living Democrats. Health care in America is a mess and getting worse by the minute, deliberations included. Americans don't want to face the fact that we can't afford to take care of all our citizens at the level of care currently in place. Something has to give and if Americans are good at anything, it is NOT giving up stuff. This is quality journalism because it did include a detail review of the sources involved and direct statements from the participants. It provided facts that can easily be verified and information can be followed upon in the future if needed.

I think the Blue Dogs Democrats almost took their bargaining power to far in the process of developing the healthcare bill.
