Glenn Greenwald, also known as Thomas Ellers and Rick Ellensburg among other pseudonyms, is extraordinarily lame, even when he's writing under his own name as he does in this post. His lack of credibility on a whole range of issues makes one highly suspicious of the basic point he is trying to make here at his usual interminable length. His essential thesis is that the media are willingly complicit in downplaying bad aspects of how the war in Iraq is going...only a totally uninformed fool could push that sort of meme, given how clearly the vast bulk of the media despise the Iraq war and make few, if any, apologies for their views. As Con Yankee has written, the reason that we've been reading more over the past few days about attacks directed against al Qaeda—more than Sunni insurgents, more than Shia militiamen—is that elements of al Qaeda have been specifically targeted by U.S. and Iraqi forces in Operation Arrowhead Ripper in Diyala Province, in Operation Commando Eagle southwest of Baghdad, Operation Marne Torch southeast of Baghdad, and in other operations throughout the country.
