After seeing this story, I immediately thought about how people from the Middle East are often mistreated on airlines. Although I am happy that Hicks was able to get his story told about the injustice that fell upon him, I feel that a lot of people do not get that liberty. People have been discriminated against since the 9/11 attack for the way they look and even their religious beliefs. Since society pictures a terrorist as a Middle Eastern, they don't complain much and don't show much sympathy to those that encounter difficulties when trying to fly. A white man from Mississippi, however, claims his rights are being infringed upon for no apparent reason and it is made into a story. I think the real story should be about the differential treatment of different ethnic groups in airport screening. Random screenings are not random; they are targeted.
