Well-studied story by Beth Fouhy of Associated Press who sought an answer to the question as to whether political ads have any effect on viewers though they're bombard by those. The story sources are good (both academic and voters) and responses are empirical; but no clear-cut conclusions.

The ads I have seen are basically insulting to our collective intelligence, and, if anything, reduces my respect for either candidate.
