Redefining Success

There were a series of notable arrests this past weekend in Pakistan. On Sunday, media outlets reported that Shah Abdul Aziz, a former MP with the MMA, was detained in connection with the murder of Piotr Stanczak, a Polish engineer decapitated by Taliban militants in February. The writer tied recent events that I am aware of to this piece indicating that he has validated his material by adding context. Placing this struggle in historical context, the writer explains how difficult it is to clear, build, and most significantly, HOLD the territory involved.

America's presence in Afghanistan and occasional drone bombardments in Pakistan portend a protracted presence ridding the remote regions of the Taliban, al qaeda, and radical terrorist groups. Hopefully the Pakistani Government will provide sufficient control over its larger cities while stretched thin in the counterinsurgency. Having the world's sixth largest population means it is by no means insignificant to American interests.
