Robles explores identity as signified by hair texture in terms of race, class and gender. Interesting to see how "one drop rule" is used in Dominican Republic. The complexity of racial identity vs cultural identity. (Also I'm wondering if this has been chopped up by a hurried editor. I got lost a couple times)

An interesting perspective. A lot of anecdotal and colorful tales. Data on how widepread the views are is missing from the article. Many similar tales are told of such attitudes over many years in the United States and elsewhere in the world.
