An interesting poll on the durability of erroneous beliefs, but I do not buy Froomkin's dismissal of blame to the media, since the media megaphoned the lies initially, and never did much to headline the news that the lies had been shown to be lies.

Bush, Cheney and others consistently linked al Qaeda to Hussein in speeches they gave in the run-up to war, and the media rarely pushed back. More »
