This story brings a good analysis about the complex dynamics that gave rise to this chaotic situation in Afghanistan. In more than a few instances, it shows that to find appropriate models of development in this context cannot be just a simple walk in the park to find ways to reconcile various parties with different agendas.

When we talk about integrated approaches for reconstruction, demobilization and reintegration, Afghanistan is an example of how difficult this process can be. This is a very challenging context which has been fueled by lingering lack of trust, political will and leadership. And clearly these factors put some dents on any attempts to restructure the institutions to build up capacity on security in order to move on with demobilization and reintegration programs.
