Feb Harpers has an article about how silicon valley and Apple are colluding to limit the job mobility of US workers. This exploitation of workers by corporations is world wide. How about putting worker representatives on every corporate board, like we imposed on Germany?

The journalistic ethica issues that arise in this article about Apple are mainly accuracy and fact checking. Towards the beginning of the story, Mark Duell, the journalist that published this article wrote that Apple's suppliers "allegedly" wrongly disposed of hazardous waste and produces improper records. As a reader, the credibility of the journalist is questions when there is not a direct source or a quote to support the claim, especially a claim that puts into question the work standards of Apple, one of the largest companies in the world. In my interview with Bruno Lopez, a Mexican journalist, he talked about the how advancements in technology especially in social media and audio/video have made it "easy to be ethical". ... More »

This story raises a lot of ethical issues because it is a journalists responsibility to report on tragedies such as this one that are happening because of high demand for technology. Although this is an unpleasant issue to report on the journalist who wrote it is being ethical by bringing the situation to light even though people who buy and use Apple equipment probably don't want to hear that their lust for technology is driving people to kill themselves. On the one hand I am glad that the journalist is bringing attention to the problems in China, but on the other hand, this story is written about every six months and leaves out some of the most important details.
