An informative article about a sad diplomatic situation. It’s amazing to see how long-lived hatred can be. One explanation for America’s invasion of Iraq was to bring democracy to the mid-east. What is overlooked is that the mid-east had a successful democracy. That is, until that democracy decided to nationalize its own oil fields, taking them back from Britain, which had neglected to relinquish control after WWII. Eisenhower sent in the CIA which overthrew democracy and installed despotic rulers who governed with a heavy hand for the next 29 years until they, too, were overthrown by the Islamic revolution in the late 70s. Not only has Iran never forgiven us, but it seems we’ve nothing to assuage their hatred.
