96-Year Old Dorothy Cooper Fighting to Vote Under TN's New GOP Voter-Suppression Law

This story is heart breaking, appalling, and just the first of many similar that we're likely to hear as new voter suppression laws, jammed through by Republican legislatures around the country, take effect before next year's 2012 Presidential election cycle. This opinion piece has a clear agenda to make the right look like they are against giving people the right to vote and use an example that is spurious at best. I have seen stories like this in the AP and Luther news sources that have used similar examples like Ms Dorthy Cooper but never dig to find out who is behind bringing these folks forward. Progressive groups throughout the country are using people like Ms Cooper to get voter ID laws thrown out, calling them "Jim Crow" like. These organizations could very well use their time to help Ms. Cooper gather the appropriate documentation to get a Voter ID card. If the news people would ask one simple question... How do you cash a check? What if the police stop you, do you receive Social Security? Each state has put in provisions for Ms Cooper to get a free ID. I doubt that if those writing the articles looked a bit closer, they could see that these folk are being held up of examples of "disenfranchisement" They don't really want her to get an ID as they would not have their issue. Here in SC people have reached out to these folks in the papers... they don't want help to get the ID.. why? I have also heard that their is no voter fraud... Interesting as a Leader of the Mississippi NAACP when to Jail for Ten counts of voting in an election multiple times. While everyone who is eligible should be able to vote in elections.. do we really want people voting multiple times because no ID is required at the polls. Voting is a right that should be protected. It is the fabric of who we are. No one on the right wants to keep this wonderful (I expect) lady from voting. Just call the GOP and ask for someone to help her get her ID... seems no one in this story told the other side.
