In her analysis of the threat to democracy in India from the Hindu right, she draws parallels to the situation in the United States. She draws on the history of democracy in India, the mix of cultures, rote learning vs critical thinking, the development of myths to justify violence, trade schools replacing liberal arts. What makes it good journalism is that she has processed a lot of information, speaks with the authority of knowledge, presents the big picture through informed details.
