this is a good introduction to the compromise bill, citing all the major provisions and also quoting the major parties who express their need to compromise to get any passable bill. it obviously doesn't meet everyone else's needs/priorities about immigration, which was mentioned in the article but the bigger picture of key viewpoints wasn't what this article was about. Left out were responses from the people who will be most affected by the bill.

The writer ascribes a position for the "left" without being aware of strong objections from factions within the "left." The escalation the numbers of H1B L1 and other high tech worker visas is objected to by professional workers and their unions who have seen an unmonitored and uncontrolled H1B program used to attack their pay levels and job security. The anti-union implications of the proposal are ignored in the article. Field workers with high skills and $5000, who can afford not to work for a year are as plentiful as space aliens, rather than international aliens.
