Sarkozy officially takes office as France's 23rd president

PARIS -- Taking office as France's 23rd president today, Nicolas Sarkozy reiterated his promises of change as he assembled a streamlined, historically diverse Cabinet that is expected to include a prominent leader of the leftist opposition.

Decent brief on Sarko's immediate plans. Gives at least some reason to hope he has at last found the vision to become a real bipartisan conciliator. If this is true and if he prevails, he could very well succeed where DeGaulle failed and become a truly great leader.
