Even assuming Alvarez-Glasman has a legal leg to stand on here -- which is far from clear -- why is the City Attorney making legal threats on behalf of a private interest? Because the city has no interest in not being libeled, and the City Manager's interest is a personal one. Does the City Attorney routinely do personal legal work for city officials? Full Story »

I have read Instapundit daily for the last 5 plus years and have found Reynolds to have good sources, information and 99 times out of 100 he is spot on. Pointing out how local governments--among others--abuse their power is something we should all be aware of...and it is usually the Left and not the Right that does so.

Instapundit and the better blogs in general are tight and contain links to other information and voices. Here, Glenn points to a longer blog entry from another blog and a second entry pointing out insurance coverages relevant to the story that people don't generally know about. It is an important issue (libel as citizen jounalists / critics) for a growing number of us.

Again, the Republicans don't want you to know the whole truth of what sparked a controversy. What did the post say? How can one tell if it was libel if the Republican media refuses to tell us what it said (in full, please)? The stifling effect of CDLs is always worrying, but libel laws exist to protect people from unjust attacks on their reputation. Makes you wonder why Republicans oppose enforcing such laws.
