North Korea tests long-range missile

North Korea has test-fired a number of missiles - one of which was a long-range weapon which failed seconds into flight, US officials have said.

The Taepodong-2 weapon, thought to be capable of reaching the US, failed about 40 seconds after it was launched. Full Story »

For reporting on a breaking (even as I type) story, the BBC once again does a good job. It would be an excellent job with more sourceing from other stakeholders in Japan, Russia and both North and South Korea. It presents the latest chronology, at this writing, and does touch many necessary bases, including providing a bit of analysis.

Journalistic quality was good, since the story was "breaking news", broke on a festive holiday when most TV channels and "all news" cables continued with their day of reruns! Searching for the whole, continuing story was not easy-BBC was there, on line fast with updates on a continuing basis, while Fox & Msnbc treated the story as a 5 min.news break. Cnn spent the day on the story, to its credit.
