Patrick Cockburn, Iraq Dismantled

A Small War Guaranteed to Damage a Superpower

Patrick Cockburn has been hailed by Sidney Blumenthal in Salon as "one of the most accurate and intrepid journalists in Iraq." And that's hardly praise enough, given what the man has done. The Middle Eastern correspondent for the British newspaper The Independent, he's been on the spot from the moment when, in February 2003, he secretly crossed the Tigris River into Iraq just before the Bush administration launched its invasion.

A good summary of Patrick Cockburn's Iraq writings and a copy of one of Patrick's detailed and compelling articles. Patrick's work is strongly written and clearly the work of someone strongly opposed to US national policy. In spite of that, he always focuses on actions on the ground and among the people and not so much on the petro-politics or imperial pretensions.

A solid source of information on the work done by Patrick Cockburn in Iraq. It is well sourced with works by Mr. Cockburn, but lacking in countervailing opinions. It does nicely encapsulate some of the more foolhardy statements made by the State department and Bush administration leading up to the war and after the fall of Saddam. I'd like to see a debate between Michael Yon and Patrick Cockburn on their on the ground assessments of the war.
