Informative update on how Congress is struggling to re-authorize a multi-billion funding program to help small firms innovate. The report is factual and gives a fair overview of two conflicting approaches to government support of innovation research - with a focus on whether or not large venture-backed firms should be excluded from that program.

Excellent writeup on the SBIR program and the factions agitating for modifications in its upcoming renewal. Treats the subject fairly and the writer's opinion is logical.

I agree with the writer that this is an extremely valuable program and that many of the modifications that biotech firms want will be bad for the program.

Mom and Pop be damned (and not even interviewed!), small business is now the province of...biotech firms and venture capital firms? Mandelbaum tries to engage all the issues with logic, but of course the invisible hand of lobbyists and has his head spinning. Mine is too.
