Texas-Size Recovery

Presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Rick Perry has boasted of significant job growth in his state in the past few years. And for good reason: It's true. While Texas clearly hasn't avoided the recession, the state has done well in terms of increasing jobs, when compared with the recovery nationally.
Perry's claim that "40 percent … of all the jobs in America were created in Texas" since June 2009 is accurate. But it’s also true that the increase ... Full Story »

I would consider it biased and bad journalism. The summary says the claims are true, then you read the article and find out they are mostly BS. The rooster is crowing that he made the sun rise when Perry had nothing to do with it. The job growth was less than the population growth and the job growth was largely due to oil and growth in the military.

This article seems factual and fair but there is too much focus on positive and to little focus on negatives and the negative are limited to the end of story.

Excellent article by FactCheck, as is usual. Excellent research. Good writing. Well organized data. Although the right-wing controlled media are falling all over themselves hyping Perry’s outstanding jobs record, it ain’t all that outstanding. What we don’t hear from the media are the ominous signs behind the Perry hype. Under Perry, the state’s budget gap has risen to over $21B. Education is being slashed 20%, while Creationism is being taught alongside the “theories” of evolution. Medicare is due for 30% cutting. His other governance activities show him to be the consummate teabaggger candidate–which could be disadvantage should he become a serious candidate. His jobs “miracle” is scant indemnity ... More »

Pretty easy to compare facts to hype, makes for easy journalism. I wish all writing was this easy to assay.

As long as the sheep will follow without question, the far right talking heads will cherry pick the facts, bend the truth, and outright lie to keep the know nothings hearing what the want to hear.

Good report on the facts behind job growth in Texas. FactCheck.org finds that some of Rick Perry's claims are true (40% of U.S. jobs created since June 2009 were in Texas), but that other important facts are conveniently left out from his speeches (Texas unemployment went up during that time).
