American jobs figures: Falling flat

A week ago, Americans were told that their economy had expanded for a second consecutive quarter, and rapidly at that: output grew at a 5.7% annual rate. Concise analysis of the new unemployment figures. Doesn't answer larger questions about why economic growth has yet to boost the labor market, but this problem seems to have stumped everyone at the moment.
