The idea of Israei/Palestinian society as mirroring South African apartheid is gaining currency. It's an ugly truth, but now even mainstream Israeli leaders, such as Defense Minister Ehud Barak, are starting to state this alternative in public. That is what makes this short analysis piece newsworthy. Even Ehud Olmert warned of this on his exit from office (one wonders why he did nothing to forestall it while he had political power) - in his words, Israel would be "finished" if it evolves into a single state with disenfranchised Palestinian occupied inhabitants.
