Pockets of resistance as rebels claim Tripoli

(Video) The head of Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) has announced the end of the Gaddafi era, while sporadic fighting continued across the capital, Tripoli.

Fighting and gun battles erupted in parts of Tripoli on Monday after tanks left Bab al-Azizyah, Muammar Gaddafi's compound, to confront the rebel assault that gained control of much of the capital in a battle overnight.

The curtain seems to be falling on the final chapter of Gaddafi's regime in Libya. Although this report appears to be written while much snipping is still going on, the three videos it contains indicate an early initiative on the part of the rebels to establish a rule of law.

If the rebels consolidate their position, and the allied Nato forces are able to secure Gaddafi's considerable stockpile of weapons, avoiding proliferation (previous reports indicate the joint chiefs are aware of the hazard), then the contrast with the "liberation of Iraq' couldn't be greater.Obama took a big risk in Libya and it's a testament to his steadfast leadership on the international front.
