I would adjudge this as an "Opinion" or even "Advocacy" piece rather than a traditional "News Report." While *based on* a news item, its goal is to persuade as much as inform. Thus, I can't fault it for not going for direct sources.

Biased reporter (liberal/Democrat). Interesting style, conveys sense of urgency. Omits sources; assumes reader is already familiar with background. Otherwise, the story does a good job of connecting the dots.

This article is about Repulblican tactics used in Ohio during the 2004 election. It is a warning to Democrats and also to all Americans that free elections are in jeopardy. Also mentioned is the trouble facing the renewal of the Voting Rights Act. Very well written and documented.
