Helpful recap of some key differences between the positions of the two French political candidates, on the eve of the election. The article presents a generally factual overview of what this election means for French traditions such as the 35-hour work week, as well as the tension between collectivism and individualism. A bit shallow on the whole, but still worth reading.

Not bad, save a major contradiction, namely, stating early on that a vote for Royal would be a vote for traditional socialism, then later (as excerpt above indicates) implying that the socialist party is moving rightward as it is collaborating with the center-right. The latter is of course the case. So it's not traditional socialism. Betrays an American knee-jerk bias against the very use of the word "socialist."
