In every nuclear capable country (UK, France, India, Pakistan, etc), the same story is repeated : the nuclear lobby is a very very powerful lobby, politicians are just too scared by the public reaction if they significantly reduce their support to those "scientists who defend the nation". In this international field, yes, the USA should lead the campaign for the complete eradication of WMD.

This story ignores an important fact: Nuclear warheads deteriorate over time. Therefore, replacing the old ones, and improving the design and capability of the replacements _may_ be a worthwhile goal. This story ignores an important historical lesson: Many other countries cannot be trusted to keep their promises. Ignoring their track records _is not_ a basis for making policy.

This is a very narrow minded foolish view of the current world situation. Weakness encourages aggression. If nothing else we owe it to the world to be a force that is beyond challenge regarding the ultimate weapons that our technological age has produced. At the heart of this article is the belief that by disarming we will cause other nations to choose to disarm. Any serious evaluation of the world situation today will show a thinking person that this isn't true. A good case in point is Tibet. A truely peaceful country, unarmed and open hearted has been overrun by it's aggressive neighbor without any real motivation other than "why not".
