Posted by Aimee deChambeauThis was a good story because the journalist is obviously well known and experienced, and did the proper research necessary for this topic. I was interested in the story
While the topic of the article is relatively fascinating and under-reported, the author's writing itself is quite questionable. The article is highly sensationalized, and plays off from emotion far too much, which is most certainly not unbiased and factual as a good article should be. In short, though the author writes about a good topic, and even references relatively extensively, his writing is nothing short of unprofessional.
The story doesn't give many sources for the many little facts it provides about horses. However it is still really interesting and i feel pretty fair for both sides, the BLM and the horses. The article does well to bring to light many issues that aren't in the main media, both concerning North America's wild animals, here mustangs, and even prisoner rehabilitation.
“In North America, mustangs have no real natural predators, and left to their own devices, they’ll breed like rabbits fed Viagra. Herds can double in size every ... More »
After reading the comments on the article, one cannot argue that the article didn't use facts. However, the facts which were used may not be the most reliable. The article was not opinionated, just poorly researched. Most of the article focused on BLM numbers, but toward the end of the article, the other side of the story is given, such as the mentioned 10% birth rate compared to BLM's 22%. While it is a controversial issue, most numbers and quotes come from BLM statistics and the people who work for the gentling program. This is the side that the article favors. The history of the acts on horses is presented and there is some discussion of the problems in the wild life, however the largest focus is on the inmates ... More »
I think this is an original article about the wild animals - mustang, and it provides many useful information to the readers. After reading this article, i feel like we need to protect wild animals just like what people do in this article.
This is a good article for anyone. It was informative, interesting and quite unique. The article was well written and provided the reader with a bunch of facts and new information.
I think the article gave a well arounded article but I found it to be commercial and little bit off center in some areas
The article appealed to the emotions. The facts about the mustangs are mixed in with the stories of the inmates. It becomes convoluted and a little repetitive. A serious article meant to inform the public about the plight of mustangs would not use the phrase "they'll breed like rabbits fed Viagra". While this article is a great introduction to the problem of the mustangs, you would not want to use this article as a source in an argument.
This is an interesting article, It shows that even if the world turns their back on these felons after having committed crimes, that they will still find something to care about passionately even if it takes a while to get used to.
This is an interesting article, providing facts and information about something most people probably do not know much about.
The main point of the article is a little hard to tell. The title and the short description indicate that the article is about a program involving inmates training mustangs, however the article jumps between this and issues regarding mustang population control.
