I find this a very powerful anecdote -- perhaps because I agree with the writer's viewpoint. But anecdotes are very narrow and well chosen for effect. We would benefit from a separate, broader and deeper analysis of the effect of the law -- not so subject to dueling anecdotes. Unfortunately, on this subject it is unlikely that it would make any difference.
