There are many deniers in this nation on the existence of racism. This recent event in Charleston,Ms. which is now being exposed to the nation reminds us all that racism is alive and well in this nation.

As someone who cares deeply about racial justice, you know that progress doesn't come easily. That's particularly true in Charleston, Mississippi, a little town in the Delta where each year parents organized separate high school proms for white and black studentsThere are two forms of racial segregation: de jure and de facto. Judicial rulings and legislation passed during the era of the Civil Rights Movement ended de jure segregation, separation that was mandated by law and enforced by the government. But de facto segregation — separation that exists even though laws do not require it — persists to the present day.
