This article practically bleeds with contempt for its subject. If, indeed, Bachmann's practices and behavior are deserving of contempt*, the facts should speak for themselves in a summary like this. Instead, this article reads as a tiresome slag-fest full of unneeded epithets and aggressive attacks on Bachmann's womanhood, as well as other attributes not at all germane to her political career. Come on, Taibbi. A "Why is Michelle Bachmann Running for President?" story can write itself. There was no need to force it.

*They are.

While this article is entertaining, it is certainly not good journallism. The obvious bias and hyperbole lead me to dismiss it as a piece of entertaining character assassination. If I really want to know more about Michele Bachmann, I'll have to go elsewhere.

Articles like this are dangerous for a reader like me. Based on other reading over the last several years, I had concluded that Michele Bachmann is a zealot, a crackpot, one who has no regard for the truth and a danger to good government. But faced with the mocking vitriole and assertions of this article I ask myselft, "If she's really so bad, why would one stoop so low to discredit her?"

Excellent, well constructed, well written article with a basic premise that Bachmann may be the craziest, most hilarious candidate out there, but also is the most dangerous. Although I included a quote, there were many quotable phrases in the article: “Pawlenty sees Bachmann as crouching and peeing on his Cheerios”. The author’s liberal use of quotes to back up his description of Bachmann makes this an extremely effective article. It’s a long piece, but an easy read and well worth the effort.

I have to include yet one more quote. This one about Bachmann’s Oklahoma alma mater, Regent University School of Law: “Yes, this was the tiny educational outhouse that, despite being the 136th-ranked law school in the country, where 60 percent of graduates flunked the bar, produced a flood of entrants into the Bush Justice Department.” Enough said!

Even other Republicans, it seems, are making the mistake of laughing at Bachmann. But consider this possibility: She wins Iowa, then swallows the Tea Party and Christian ... More »

forwarned is forarmed

In a country that elected Bush Junior for a second term and in which 40% of the adult population believes in the literal word of a book written by an obscure sect of desert living extremists some 2000 years ago, Bachmann is no joke. If she is even the candidate for the GOP it's time to look for another planet.

Tiabbi tends to sensationalize a skosh, but w Michelle Bachmann, it's frankly hard NOT to be sensational. That Bachmann has really done little as a rep of congress that can be pointed to as "substantial" or "meaningful" is certainly evident to anyone who examines the record. Unfortunately, as Woodrow Wilson sagely pointed decades ago, "the bulk of humankind is ignorant" and most don't select their candidates based on rational thinking. "That bulk votes" mused Wilson, and nowhere ... More »
