Who Needs Who for What?

Leaving aside whether or not the surge has actually been showing promise, for the president to agree concretely to binding congressional Democratic demands for withdrawal if the surge doesn't work in a set period of time would amount to a radical departure for the president and a clear substantive victory for the Democratic opposition. For the "American Prospect", this is pretty good. But isn't there some way out of this "real politik" hole? The Dems and the Repubs locked in symbiotic embrace... yeah, yeah, yeah. Meanwhile, I know there are Republicans and Democrats who say the war is a human catastrophe and would be pleased to find a way to end it now. How about giving those voices a little air time?
