This is a somewhat strange piece that skirts the line of factual reporting in places as it speculates on the role of torture and other heavy interrogation methods in the capture of Osama bin Laden. But the piece is largely about the debate between experts on the subject, and it covers this in a balanced way.
Shane and Savage provide details and multiple quotes from experts that dispel the self-serving claims of the perpetrators of crimes against humanity during the bush administration.
Regardless of whether torture "works", and it doesn't, it is illegal and immoral. The fact it was used at all is a dark stain upon the US and allies. The perpetrators should have been prosecuted, and still should be prosecuted.
