Rankism

(Video) The dignity movement is against humiliation, it is against talking down to people, it is against games of one-upmanship. It is against what I call rankism. Rankism is what somebodies feel they can get away with and do to nobodies.

Insightful TED speech about "rankism" and dignity by Robert Fuller, former president of Oberlin College. In this short video, he proposes a "dignity movement" to encourage people to treat each other with respect, and to curb the cycle of predation which humans have practiced on each other for millenia. He makes thoughtful, well-reasoned points about how this issue relates to racism, sexism and other forms of social degradation.
