what makes this acceptable as opinion journalism is the link to the opinion to which author m.s. refers, who is w.w.. who writes the initial piece which m.s. opposes here. both pieces refer to the joseph stiglitz vanity fair article.(in newstrust). m. s. here agrees with mr. stiglitz, and refutes w.w.'s rebuttal, by analyzing his arguments to point out some realities..

although in the guardian, both pieces appear to be from u.s. writers, knowledgeable about economics and government

This is a well written and thoughful piece that argues the difference in ideology and the facts as presented here. These are also my sentiments exactly. Expecially, the harm caused to the military by the private-government contracting. Waste, fraud and abuse is prevalent. Besides, once our government turn over the the private sector, the more control the people of the US lose over our governmental functions. Also, our government will be over a barrel to the private sector to continue using them, because we will no longer have the capacity to provide those necessary functions any longer.
