Important news, but a pretty bad article. Does not give the source of "biggest previous estimate of 655,000". No evidence to support Polya's claim. Seems to get responses from both sides of the fence, but actually it is mixing two separate stories into one article. Bolsters the credibility of Gideon Polya, but fails to declare his activism.

The top level claim of one million deaths in Iraq is believable and interesting, but the story fails to provide enough details to fully engage the topic. The story supports other news from The Independent that a British scientist supporting the British military has confirmed the scientific methodology used in the Lancet/ Johns Hopkins survey that estimated a median of 655,000 one year ago.
