The article catches the absurdity of the moment.

If there were strong democratic leaders in the senate and house leading the fray, standing aloof above the fray might be politically and socially clever. In the current situation, it leaves no leader at all. The people have lost their voice in government, and unless they take it back, democracy will fall in a heap of poverty.
