Reid says budget talks stymied by GOP policy provisions

Congressional negotiators working through the night failed to reach an agreement to fund the federal government for the remainder of the year as their talks foundered over two Republican policy provisions on abortion and the environment, increasing the likelihood of a government shutdown beginning this weekend, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Pretty hard to make a story like this into bad journalism. Just reporting the facts

I wonder if Mr average American will even notice that the government is not in session. Clearly, the salaries of the congress men and the senators should stop and not be repaid retroactively. That would focus their attention. Great way to save money for more important things (than government) like health care for the people they have put out of work by their lack of regulation of the banks and investment companies. How much money could be diverted if the congress and senate was shut down for 6 months.
