I had high hopes for this story before reading it, but the beginning of the second paragraph -- "The fire academy's May class of graduates is motivated, dedicated and determined" -- colored how I read the rest of it. That's not fact-based or supported and feels like it was written as a favor to the city. I also found the writing lacking in tying together threads; the quotes from Clack and Burris read as a back-and-forth without context or transition, and the information about the physical tests was choppy. In all, while the subject is relevant and the investigation important, there's a troubling lack of substance.
