As has been noted, this is a well written piece of "advocacy journalism" -- so balance is intentionally omitted. A wide array of gay advocacy groups are quoted but it would have been a stronger piece if more comments were also obtained from non-advocates -- along the lines of that from Congressman Marty Meehan.

While understandably slanted toward the gay point of view, this does make a convincing argument; was rather disappointed that it didn't mention the fact the the militaries of most industrialized nations have allowed full participation by gays for eons--without cohesion problems!

I like the fact that it is a new source; clearly advocacy journalism, but the quotes are well referenced. It brings in a new viewpoint and shines a different light on an issue.
