Understanding the Violence in Israel

As many others have remarked, for all their individual differences, the dozen or so mass movements that have emerged across the Middle East over the past three months have all been distinguished by the near total absence of anti-American or anti-Zionist sentiment. Even in the Palestinian territories, the issue has been less Palestine and more the pathological inadequacies of their own governing structures that make normal civic life largely unbearable. Interesting and provocative viewpoint that presents all actions in the Middle East as anti-Israel conspiracies. Laced with enough possibly-accurate information to have some credibility with audiences that don't look deeper for analysis, Cheney's former national security advisor's perspective is suspect. Unfortunately one-sided, this piece is a classic example of the myopic right-wing propaganda that continues to prevent just peace for Israel or Palestine.

This news analysis is outstanding journalism. The author brings together several strands of developments in the Middle East, focused on the outbreak of terrorism against Israeli people (though the brutal massacre of a family in Itamar late last week by terrorists is not mentioned). The author clarifies the difference in attitudes of the protesters against Arab governments (who are largely pro-freedom) and the actions of the governments and Palestinian terrorist groups (who are trying to distract from their own failures). Well written.
