An examination of an unreleased draft report that relies too heavily on the conclusions of the report's authors, this article seems overly sensationalistic and does none of us much good by ignoring alternative opinions, other sources, and less sensational outlooks.

This article is largely based on a single report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. While this panel is well regarded by most scientists, the reporter did not seek views from independent observers, and mostly quotes the report's authors. In a way, this dry, factual presentation of coming horrors makes them even more scary. Though the article does a great job of covering the basics of the report and possible impacts, there's one it doesn't look at. The quote, "it's the poor sectors that will be most affected" leaves me to wonder how this will impact political and economic systems. When millions of poor people are dying of tropical diseases and famine, I would imagine they'll either try to escape or to grab what they need to survive. The struggle for arable land and for drinkable water could lead to global warfare on a scale we've never seen before on the planet.

Total sensationalism without substantiation, possible even an attempt to discredit the source report. Only three fleeting interviews. No attempt to explore the facts behind the claims. This reads almost like the back cover of a novel.
